It's the form factor for motherboards. Basically, it dictates where on earth stuff is laid out on the motherboard. That is, processor goes here, PCI slots are at hand, memory banks are placed here, etc.



The overwhelming majority of desktops are ATX. There is a unmarked form factor called BTX but it hasn't really taken sour.
